- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium green cabbage, chopped
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth or vegetable broth
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: squeeze of lemon or fresh parsley for serving
Instructions
- In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until softened. Add ground beef or turkey and cook until browned.
- Transfer the cooked meat mixture to the slow cooker.
- Add chopped cabbage, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, broth, rice, paprika, oregano, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Stir everything together until evenly combined.
- Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until cabbage and rice are tender.
- Adjust seasoning if needed and stir well before serving.
- Garnish with parsley or a squeeze of lemon for brightness.
Notes
- Rice will absorb liquid as it cooks; if it looks too thick, add a splash of broth.
- For gluten-free, ensure your broth and tomato products are gluten-free.
- Leftovers refrigerate well for 3–4 days; reheat gently.
- To lighten, use lean ground beef or turkey and serve with a fresh green salad.
