Description

Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole is an easy 1-pan brunch dish that captures the indulgent flavors of a Monte Cristo: fluffy French-toast slices layered with melty cheese and halal turkey ham plus turkey slices, all baked to golden perfection.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick bread (brioche or Texas toast works best)
  • 6 slices halal turkey ham
  • 6 slices turkey breast
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Powdered sugar for topping
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Arrange 4 slices of bread on the bottom of the dish.
  3. Layer halal turkey ham, turkey slices, and half the cheese over the bread.
  4. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread and the rest of the cheese.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and pepper.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole, pressing gently to help it soak in.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake an additional 20–25 minutes, until golden and set.
  9. Dust lightly with powdered sugar before serving and add maple syrup on the side.

Notes

  • Can be assembled the night before and refrigerated; bake the next morning.
  • Using brioche yields the best texture; regular bread can be substituted if needed.
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
