  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (halal version)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (plus extra for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until soft. Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Add half the beef mixture, followed by half the soup mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Sprinkle with shredded cheese and cover with foil.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes covered, then uncover and bake for another 15 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
