  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (halal)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (for gravy)
  • 6 slices sandwich bread
  • Mashed potatoes, for serving
  • Optional garnish: chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season chuck roast with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  2. Sear roast on all sides until browned.
  3. Transfer roast to the slow cooker and add onion and garlic.
  4. Pour beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over the roast.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours until beef is fork-tender.
  6. Remove beef and shred or slice.
  7. Whisk cornstarch slurry into the cooking liquid, cover, and cook on high for 10-15 minutes until gravy thickens.
  8. To serve, place bread on a plate, top with beef, spoon gravy generously over, and serve with mashed potatoes.
