Description

Black Pepper Chicken – a fast, 25-minute dinner featuring juicy chicken tossed with crisp peppers in a bold black pepper sauce. This gluten-free and halal-friendly stir-fry is restaurant-worthy yet quick to make at home.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast, sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp ground white pepper (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ cup gluten-free tamari
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar or honey (optional, for balance)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together tamari, chicken broth, cornstarch, sesame oil, and sugar if using. Set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add chicken slices and cook 3–4 minutes until just cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add bell peppers and onion. Stir-fry 2–3 minutes until crisp-tender.
  5. Add garlic, black pepper, white pepper, paprika, and a pinch of salt. Stir until fragrant.
  6. Return chicken to the pan and pour in the sauce.
  7. Cook 2–3 minutes, stirring, until sauce thickens and coats everything evenly.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot.
